In The Kitchen
Biscuits... A staple in the south, everyone eats biscuits. For fast food restaurants the biscuit revolutionized breakfast on the go. Lunch and dinnertime, biscuits are the bread of choice... they even show up as desserts. Everyone's Grandmother made biscuits. And every one has a different recipe for them.
My great grandmother made soft fluffy biscuits that melted in your mouth. My grandmother makes a biscuit that is denser, more like a pastry. My mother uses a variety of recipes, including one that substitutes sour cream for the traditional shortening. Myself, I make canned biscuits, two or three times a week. My family likes the kind with layers. Sometimes we get the ones that have icing and are like a sweet roll.
The following is a collection of biscuit recipes from friends and family around the south. Some for fancy party type biscuits and others for making biscuits for large groups... Whatever your choice, you are sure to find one to grace your breakfast or dinner table. Enjoy!
